Today’s question asks if I have ever considered writing a book? Well, since you asked…
For some time I have thought that there is a need for some significant advice for people who are considering giving up full-time employment to semi-retire or retire. I know there is a plethora of information out there already, however this one would be different.
I imagine doing a lot of research about people who have already made the transition. I would like to hear about what has worked well for them and what hasn’t. I would like it to have lots of case studies that delve into the motivations and aspirations of people as they contemplate retirement. Other books consider the housing options and the income options etc but I would like to explore issues on personal fulfilment and success. It will be a book that people, perhaps over fifty years of age, could read and begin to gain a concept of how they would like their future to look. They would also be able to relate to the case studies and perhaps learn from the mistakes of others to make better decisions, or more “heart-felt” decisions about what is right for them.
Another book I would like to write is about my experiences about outback Australia and some of the wonderful (and tragic) times I experienced there.
Yet another book would be about being a single parent and raising three sons. It would cover practical advice about finances and the like, but it would also shed some light on what aspects of my role which I am pleased about and what I would do differently, given the opportunity.
And then there is another one about my spiritual journey – from being brought up in the Catholic Church then moving to the Anglican Church as an adult. It would cover my journey to where I am now, that is, unsure of what I believe. I would look at this journey and the impact on me from a psychological and philosophical angle.
I wish I had a book in me that was a comedy or a fantasy but unfortunately my mind doesn’t work like that!
cheers for now
