Recently I took a little time out from the blogging world just to see what it would be like.
Here is what I found
1. It was a relief! My brain could have a rest from seeking out new ideas to write about.
2. I had more time for other things – I made a little book for my grandson and I enjoyed that.
3. I became more curious about blogs I subscribe to – I had time to read them and explore their web pages.
4. When visiting other blogs I wanted to “lurk in the background” and not comment or press the “like” button. It was hard NOT to be actively involved.
5. I still checked the stats and was concerned that it may be hard to build them up again after having a break. One day I had zero visitors to my site.
6. I started to miss blogging – withdrawal set in!
7. Blog ideas came and went – I didn’t write them down and then I forgot them – so I started writing them down again.
8. I looked at other software programs (those ones I should make more use of – eg how to use my camera properly etc) on my computer.
9. Tried to resolve (unsuccessfully) an Outlook 10 send/receive problem that I keep putting off.
10. I was thinking more about philosophy and the belief that the world is a good place – that there is more good than evil – it is a safe place and that the power of life is within me!
11. I am still wondering if I want to continue my blog in the same way as I did in 2011 or is it timely to do it differently and if so, how? Still pondering that one…
12. I also spent some time reflecting on friendships and how they change – moving 200km away and being semi-retired has changed the nature of my friendships. I started to think about “what is a friend?” I know that a lot of research says that friendships are SO important in our senior years – so what am I going to do about it? I also wondered about the role my online friends (that is you I am talking about :-)) play in my life?
I have jotted down a list of things to write about in the coming days and weeks. It is tempting to want my blog to be “as good as” some of the blogs I follow but that takes the joy out of blogging for me. I want to write from within in the way an abstract artist expresses his/her imagination in an art form.
Stay tuned for more questions, more reflections, some “aha! moments” and quest to respond to life as I find it, day by day.
Until tomorrow
Lorraine 🙂
I enjoy blogging, but I am just a photo blogger so that is much easier. I am glad you have taken a well deserved rest. I look forward to hearing more from you.
thanks for visiting – have a great day!

I think it is a good idea to step away for a bit and gain some perspective before blogging again. I did it a couple of years ago and was richer for the experience… will do it again. Welcome back! 🙂
Thanks Elizabeth. Have a great weekend!

Welcome back. Thanks for hitting the like button on my blog today!
It’s good to think about blogging and important just to enjoy blogging.
Welcome back Lorraine! 🙂
Thanks imexcited. It is good to be back. I have slowed down my blogging pace though – will probably aim at 2-3 a week. I seem to have run dry on ideas of what to write about. I think my writing has a limited readership as I tend to take life so seriously most of the time 🙂
cheers
