It was a cold and blustery weekend with really big winds and heavy rain. It was still raining this morning. I was up at 6.10am and left home at 7.30am to go to work. It turned out to be an interesting morning – not at all what I was expecting. I work in Bunbury, about 60 kilometres from home. There was steady rain and evidence of lots of storm damage along the way. Traffic signs were uprooted and lying flat on the ground. Tree branches littered the side of the road. Many trees were uprooted altogether. The road crew must have cleared the debris from the road over night.
My workplace is in natural bushland on the edge of Bunbury. I saw a ‘road closed’ sign at the entrance to the Uni. A man in a flouro vest directed me away from the entrance. It was Bob – our security guy! He said, go home and don’t come back until Wednesday! Who was I to argue? I only work Mondays and Tuesdays and I am having some leave next week. What a pleasant surprise.
I was able to visit my son and his wife and check out the damage to their property. The roof was lifted off their garage and all the contents were rain damaged. They are without power and this could go on for several days. More wild weather is forecast.
Winter has arrived!
