WordPress Prompt for today: Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?
There are a few quotes I find really helpful. My favourite would be the one taken from the Serenity Prayer about “accept the things I cannot change and change the things I can”.
It keeps me sort through the clutter, sometimes in serious situations but mostly in everyday issues. I can quickly look at a situation and find what, if anything, I can do to change things. It saves me banging my head against a brick wall aimlessly if I can’t change the situation.
Another quote I like is “it will pass”. It is helpful when a situation seems intolerable. It is a reminder that time moves on and each day brings fresh opportunities for new circumstances or attitudes. I had one of those days yesterday and fortunately I woke up today feeling much better – for no clear reason.
One I use a lot – in my head at least – is to remember that “people are more important than things” when something is dropped on the tile floor in the kitchen into a hundred tiny pieces, I can let go and not get stressed about it.
Finally, to get a perspective on things sometimes, I ask myself “how important will this be in five years time?”

One of my faves is :”the purpose of life is to fight maturity” because it fits me to a tee and gives me an excuse for my childish behavior 🙂 . Another fave is “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. It moves me because, being a software engineer, I’ve seen lots of needlessly overcomplicated designs and code that are on the verge of incomprehensible (to me).
Yes, I like simple! I like the other one about fighting maturity too 🙂 Thanks for visiting.
I love your quotes because they all encourage us to have greater perspective, and few things are more valuable
Yes, thanks for commenting. I agree with you that perspective is really important
