Village Square

I woke up this morning with a feeling of dread

My mind is hurting from all that was said

The worst insults I have known in many a year

What happened to those values that we hold so dear?

Care for those who are less well off

Positive solutions – not just for the toffs

Is it about ego, capitalism and personal gain?

Will they just bring more suffering and pain?

It could be so much worse, I know!

At least I can freely vote and come and go

Imagine if love, fairness and compassion ruled the day

I earnestly hope that one day we will find a way

cheers

Lorraine

  1. Your words reflect my sentiments this morning so well. Even if we vote for a minor party or an independent, we end up withTweedle-dee or Tweedle-dum. What a choice!

  2. And yet, Lorraine. I went to the polling place, where there was a cordial atmosphere, and the officials went out of their way to be helpful. I remembered again that it’s a privilege to participate in democracy.

    • I agree we are fortunate and have very little to complain about compared to many other parts of the world.

  3. I’m somewhat relieved that I know what the electron results are now. Now, hopefully, life can return to normal, and everyone can get back to their lives.

However we are so fortunate that we have the privilege to vote, without pressure from a military regime!

    • Yes I agree with what you say. We are the lucky ones to live where we do and enjoy all that comes with it. Thanks for your thoughts.

  4. I worry about the environment, education and health, and the poor “boat” people. I don’t like the mean streak in so many Australians and the mean streak I sense in our new government. I feel sad.

    • Good to share similar concerns. My husband is compensating by playing lots of union songs (‘you can’t get me I am part of the union … ‘)
