An unsettling dream …

I don’t usually write about my dreams as they can be pretty weird, as they are with most people I imagine. Last night I had a dream that hasn’t occurred for several years.

I dreamed I had (secretly) buried a dead body (some time ago) and it was about to be discovered. I was extremely anxious and dreading being found out. I wondered what this dream theme symbolises so I did a google search.

It is surprising to find out that it is a common dream and I thought it might be interesting to see if other bloggers have experienced it as well.

Here is a link to one site that provides an interpretation: Dream Meaning

Have any readers experienced this dream as well? Please let me know as I am curious about how common it is.

  1. i’ve never had such a dream, but my dreams are almost always vivid and sleep and dreams are subjects that i find most interesting, having studied psychology.
this dream, to me, portends a secret that will out. do you have secrets? of course you do… we all do.
perhaps it is something you’ve been denying yourself – good or bad.
perhaps it is a secret you’ve been wrestling with your conscience about…?
perhaps it is merely a reflection of crime TV shows you’ve been watching, ergo, maybe there is no hidden meaning.
maybe you feel you’ve lost something and now trying to retrieve it… something tangible or perceived.

    dreams are fascinating.
don’t stop dreaming… literally, or metaphorically.
it’s what sets us apart from other earthlings. x

  2. No… I’ve not dreamed of putting someone away… yet. I have dreamed strange dream in the past and have woken remembering snippets. On the odd occasion the snippet has been the beginning of a short story. Fun!! πŸ˜‰

    • What a great idea! I am enjoying your novel by the way :-). What a great way to share some family history – I am guessing there are elements of real life in the story πŸ™‚

      • πŸ˜‰ Yes… there are elements of real life there… I am South African, was in the SAAF… came to Ireland to a multinational. I think that’s where it ends. Oh, I like throwing meat (and veg) on the coals and red wine… and Portugal… and history… and… no, it’s not my life’s story! πŸ˜€

  3. a body you buried being discovered sounds like something, including an emotion, in your past that you keep out just the sight and the dream concerned your feelings about what it would be like to have people suddenly seeing into the more private “You” which I think a lot of us would find unsettling. Probably nonsense of course, but its a theory anyway. Hope you and yours have a really lovely Christmas πŸ™‚

    • thank you Peter. I am sure there is truth in your thoughts about my dream. Thanks for the Christmas wishes and I wish the same for you, family and friends πŸ™‚ x

  4. Oh yes, I have had this dream! And not just that I am burying it, but that I’ve had some role in killing the person. The part where I actually do any killing is never in the dream – just the part about hiding it – so I guess the deep meaning is about hiding some part of myself and not that I’m a psychopath!
